At the time of A Baby’s Breath’s founding, the Respect Life group I was managing had just held a Run for Life, which generated about $5000 in net profit. We were considering whether to give the money to another organization to carry out our mission of directly helping mothers in crisis pregnancies, but I discovered there was no pro-life organization in my community. We accepted the challenge of starting our own organization without hesitation.

As with all five of our centers, we prefer to have the next year’s expenses in the bank before opening them. The Run for Life was our primary vehicle to fund our centers until COVID lockdowns prevented us from accessing local parks. We discovered that our sponsors supported us even though we did not host the Run for Life. Only one center, Warminster, still holds an annual Run for Life. Seeing all the young people and families join in support of our mission is very enjoyable.

While the Run for Life was a fun way to raise money, it focused more on raising awareness of what our organization does. We had many participants in the Run for Life who returned to us with their crisis pregnancies. They enjoyed seeing the warm smiles of people like Dorothy Swedkowski, who participated in and managed 20 Run for Life events before COVID. Dorothy and her husband Bud, from the local Knights of Columbus, would marshal our Runs at the Jeffersonville Run for Life at the Norristown Farm Park.

The Warminster Run is managed by the Warminster team, which includes Ed Klenk, Race Director, Anne Ruegner, Warminster GM, and Cathy Mote’s grandchildren, who contribute by selling raffles. Many schools and churches send their groups; it is a great way to raise awareness of our mission.

The annual budget is developed based on the profit and loss statements from the previous year. This process requires consistent account reconciliation and accurate expense categorization. Our organization is now subject to a review, and since our support base has been strong, we have been able to finance the purchase of our new home in Phoenixville.

The benefit of establishing a strong support base is that we can concentrate on

assisting mothers, fathers, and families facing a crisis pregnancy before, during, and after. We don’t get caught up in the pressure other centers impose on themselves when competing for funds – we have 24 years of demonstrating how we help.

In this heartfelt episode of A Baby’s Breath Podcast, we hear from longtime volunteers Dorothy and Bud, who share their journey of faith, service, and community. With years of dedication to A Baby’s Breath, their story reflects the power of compassion and the lasting impact of consistent, humble work.

From behind-the-scenes support to hands-on advocacy, Dorothy and Bud show how every role, big or small, can help build a culture of life and hope.

A Baby’s Breath Warminster is gearing up for our annual Run for Life, a family-friendly 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run that supports moms, babies, and families in crisis.

Held each fall, this event brings the community together in a fun and meaningful way to raise funds for life-affirming services like counseling, housing support, and prenatal care. Whether you walk, run, or volunteer, every step helps make a difference.
